3 x 75cl PHILIBERT’S IPA

Une pièce du XVIe siècle portant les initiales E.F. a été récemment découverte près de la brasserie ici à Gasques.
E.F. signifie Emmanuel Philibert (Filibert en orthographe ancienne) Cette pièce estampillée à la main de Chambéry a été émise par le duché de Savoie.
La région historico-culturelle de la Savoie s’étend du lac Léman au nord à Nice au sud. Le duché de Savoie (1416–1860) comprenait des parties de ce qui est maintenant l’Italie occidentale et le sud-ouest de la Suisse et est maintenant divisé par la frontière franco-italienne
Autrefois duc et fondateur de la Savoie moderne, le jeune Emmanuel-Philibert était surnommé à juste titre “Iron Head” (“Tête de Fer”) en raison de son caractère non conventionnel. Il dirigea personnellement l’invasion espagnole du nord de la France et remporta une brillante victoire à Saint-Quentin le 10 août 1557. Emmanuel Philibert apprit à diriger une armée, il fut le premier duc à mettre en place une armée stable qui n’était pas composée de mercenaires mais plutôt , soldats savoyards spécialement formés. Un prétendant à Lady Elizabeth Tudor, plus tard la reine Elizabeth I, il a finalement épousé sa cousine germaine, Marguerite de France, la duchesse de Berry qui était la sœur du roi Henri II de France. Il n’a eu qu’un fils avec elle, mais avec diverses maîtresses, il laisse sept enfants illégitimes!

PHILIBERT’S IPA ANGLAISE
Nous avons nommé notre dernière vraie bière d’après ce personnage coloré, et à seulement 4,9% ABV, elle ne devrait pas vous donner une tête de fer!
Cette IPA anglaise brassée à partir du malt typiquement britannique «Maris Otter» a du houblon East Kent Goldings pour l’amertume, suivie d’une abondance de saveurs colorées de la variété exceptionnelle Mosaic et Simcoe. La fermentation finale a lieu dans la bouteille pour donner cette saveur unique de vraie bière.

The once Duke and Founder of modern Savoie, the young Emmanuel-Philibert was rightly nicknamed “Iron Head” because of his unconventional character. He personally led the Spanish invasion of northern France and won a brilliant victory at Saint-Quentin on 10 August 1557. Emmanuel Philibert learned how to run an army, he was the first Duke to establish a stable military that was not composed of mercenaries but rather, specially trained Savoyard soldiers. A suitor to Lady Elizabeth Tudor, later Queen Elizabeth I, he eventually married his first cousin, Margaret of France, the Duchess of Berry who was sister of King Henry II of France. He had just one son with her, but with various mistresses, he leaves seven illegitimate children!

PHILIBERT’S ENGLISH IPA
We have named our latest real ale after this colourful character, and at just 4.9% ABV it shouldn’t give you an Iron head!
This English IPA brewed from the quintessentially British malt “Maris Otter” has East Kent Goldings hops for bittering, then followed with an abundance of colourful flavours from the exceptional Mosaic and Simcoe variety. Final fermentation takes place in the bottle to give that unique real ale flavour.
